Through media advocacy and high-level political engagement, CSMA advocates for the registration, roll-out and scale-up of biomedical HIV prevention and treatment options that have been proven to work to all key populations that urgently need them.
CSMA is currently advocating for the continued scale-up of Voluntary Medical Male Circumcision (VMMC), HIV Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) and increased resource allocations to the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (Global Fund).
Noting the approval of the dapivirine ring (a silicone ring which slowly releases the ARV dapivirine into the vagina slowly over one month) by the European Medicines Agency (EMA) in July 2020, CSMA is jointly coordinating with partners in Zimbabwe to advocate for its regulatory approval and roll-out. CSMA is also monitoring the dapivirine ring open label extension (OLE) studies.
Engagement with the Global Fund and PEPFAR processes
CSMA promotes the inclusion and prioritisation of AGYW sexual and reproductive health and rights issues in the Global Fund – Country Coordinating Mechanism (CCM) and the United States of America Presidential Emergency Plan For Aids Relief (PEPFAR) COPs processes.
Community engagement and mobilisation for effective HIV/ Tuberculosis (TB) co-management
Through community engagement, CSMA, conducts HIV/TB co-management education workshops, assists in contact tracing for HIV/TB and also conducts TB and HIV awareness and education workshops promoting testing and adherence to treatment.
